Picasso

Picasso stayed in Terra Alta in 1898, in the town of Horta de Sant Joan, with the help of Manuel Pallarés, a young artist who was the son of the village, to cure himself of scarlet fever. After their first excursion to the summit of Santa Bàrbara, they plan the adventure of retiring to paint in the Ports for a month.

His stay in the municipality of Terralt will last 9 months, but the deep ties that united him with this land and these people make him return for a second time in 1909 in search of inspiration and accompanied by his fiancée Fernande Olivier. That second stay corresponds entirely to the moment of his great Cubist adventure and the works he painted there are scattered in the most prestigious museums in the world.

In Horta de sant Joan is the Picasso Center , with an exhibition of the works that the artist paints in Horta de Sant Joan.
