Representations and recreations

In the Terra Alta there are a series of performances and recreations that revolve around history, culture and religion.

The passion of Vilalba dels Arcs is a theatrical performance of the last days of the life of Jesus, is performed on Holy Thursday, in the evening and Holy Saturday in the afternoon.

The medieval market of Batea takes place on the first weekend of July, is organized by the women’s association La Templada and is a contest that transports the people to the Middle Ages, taking advantage of the perfect setting that are the porches and the streets of the municipality creating an ideal environment for the occasion.

The Gandesa farce is a theatrical performance that takes place in Gandesa where the royal wedding between Peter of Aragon and Anjou and Leonor of Castile and Portugal is recreated. This representation revolves around the marriage arranged by James II the Just and Ferdinand IV of Castile, secretly arranged to unite the two territories and expel the Muslims from the peninsula. The performance recreates the wedding and the subsequent escape of the groom who broke the pact.

La Fatarella recreates in November the last battles of the Battle of the Ebro during the retreat of the republican forces. It is done in the same space where these events took place, the defensive line of the Fatarella.
